LeRoy Orval Young was born on January 7, 1927 in Leon Township, Goodhue County to parents John and Gladys (Larson) Young. His baptism took place on January 31, 1927 at the Spring Garden Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls. As a young adult, LeRoy confirmed his faith in the Lord at the same church. After graduating from Cannon Falls High School, he pursued higher education at the University of Wisconsin River Falls, graduating in 1951 with a degree. LeRoy’s thirst for knowledge led him to earn a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota in 1962.

A life of love and service

In the summer of 1951, LeRoy married Carolyn Eldred at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Their journey together began in Eagle Bend, where LeRoy began his teaching career. The couple later moved to St. Paul and LeRoy discovered his passion in golf course technology and irrigation while working with Minnesota Toro. He enjoyed the opportunity to work outdoors, travel to various golf courses and provide expert recommendations. Most of all, he valued the bonds he formed with his clients, which made his work even more fulfilling.

Over the years he has served on various boards and committees of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Central Lutheran School and St. John’s Lutheran Church. He leaves behind a loving family: children Randee (David) Petterson of Texas, Cary Young of St. Paul, Mark (Missy) Young of Chaska, Dan (Ann) Young of Hamburg and Paul Young of Nebraska. In addition, his legacy will be carried on by his cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. LeRoy is also survived by brothers Lowell Young (Judy), Rick Beckman, sisters Roseanne Powers, Victoria Golden, and brother and sisters-in-law Dr. Keith Eldred, Maxine Place, Gwen Wiebusch and Betty Young. His memory lives on with nieces, nephews and countless other relatives and friends, all of whom were touched by his presence.

Obituary for Leroy Young: The funeral service honoring the life of LeRoy O. Young will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 101 SE 2nd Ave. held at Norwood Young America. Pastor Josh Hoffmann will lead the service. A viewing will be held prior to the ceremony to allow relatives to pay their respects. LeRoy is buried in the church cemetery, a fitting resting place for a man who has cultivated faith and fellowship all his life.

LeRoy’s beloved grandchildren will act as pallbearers, symbolizing the enduring bond he had with his family.
