Samuel Nelson Elliott III was born on March 7, 1956, in Mannington, CA, to the late Samuel Nelson, Jr. and Elizabeth Lee (Francis). Tragically, on March 28, 2023, he passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and kindness.

Nelson spent his formative years in Mannington until 1964 when his family relocated to Riverside, CA. After completing his studies at LaSierra High School in 1974, Nelson pursued a BA in Sociology at the University of California, Riverside, graduating in 1979. That same year, he returned to Mannington and pursued further studies, obtaining a Master’s degree in mathematics from West Virginia University.

A Lifelong Educator and Coach

For over 37 years, Nelson poured his heart and soul into his true passion: teaching. Throughout his remarkable career, he became a revered figure at North Marion High School, leaving a lasting impact on countless students. Friends and well-wishers are invited to pay their respects at Hutson Funeral Home for the “Sam Elliott Obituary“, located at 500 E Main St., Mannington, on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Sunday from 12:00 – 8:00 pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, commencing at 10:00 am.
